Working with our many clients to accomplish their objective, we’ve compiled this list of best business management practices.

Many of our clients have displayed traits in their leadership and decision-making style that, we believe, allowed them to realize positive outcomes in spite of challenging circumstances.  Drawing from his experiences in working with business owners in critical situations, Dave Hamernik compiled a “Top 11” list of the essential traits that are necessary to achieve superior results:

1. Know your core business.
2. Act quickly and decisively with a clear objective.
3. Accept ownership and be accountable.
4. Communicate – you need help and support.
5. Listen to others.
6. Know your critical business partners.
7. Drill down into margins.
8. Cut your losses – re-think and re-engineer.
9. Manage to cash and to liquidity.
10. Invest, earn-out or sell-out and know when to fold.
11. Persistence pays off.

* Dave Hamernik discussed the “Top 11” list in a presentation titled: “Reality Therapy: A Businessperson’s Perspective”, as part of a Directors Roundtable program in Cincinnati.  For more information about the presentation, please contact Dave at djhamernik@hamernik.com.
